Teenager's Fashions
The 1950's fashion is very unique. World War II is over and America is getting back to normal. By this time the baby boom had happened and the new generation of fashion will be controlled by them. There are different fashions for teen girls and teen boys. Also some cloth items are similar between women and men. One thing that changed was that women could start wearing pants. The style pants they could wear were bermuda shorts.They are casual knee- length shorts. But they never pants for the holidays like us girls do in this generation. Also if you were going to go to prom you would by a dress that didn't show your sholders ore arms. If it did then you had to wear something that would cover your arms. There no strapless dresses that were available. Also to prom or a special occasion or holiday they would wear white gloves. Many girls also had to have an Easter dress. Many teenagers had at least one. Which teen girl in 1950's not have a poodle skirt. They came in many different colors.Most traditonal we think of is pink. Along with the types of skirts they wore, they use a hip slip underneath them. A hip slip is used to emphasizing the swooping , circular cut skirt. The hair style for teen girls was the pony tail.Many girl wore this up do. Some girls also wore straight dresses. To school girls wore scarves on a regular basis. They were very versatile and were worn as belts, neck scarves or even halter tops. Also many girls wore a vibrant swim cap to go swimming. They wore sadal shoes
Now on to the boys. In the1950's boys never wore their favorite team apperal. Like if you like the Phillies no jerseys or shirts that had their logo on it. Boys also didn't wear hats. They never wore jewlery. Like none at all. If you played a sport you had a high rise sport coat. They also wore trench coats with the belt around them.Tights jeans, blazers and jackets would be worn as well.Because of the rock and roll influences of the time, some boys dressed as greasers. Many boys had their hair like Elvis Presely. The type of shoes they wore were sadel shoes. Boys had a nice Easter outfit.
